Hattie Rakes Obituary

Hattie Mary Wade Rakes COLUMBIA - Funeral services for Mrs. Hattie Mary "Tut" Wade Rakes will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the Zion Baptist Church, with burial to follow in the Memorial Gardens of Columbia. Leevy's Funeral Home, Taylor Street Chapel is in charge. Born July 13, 1921 in Columbia, SC to the late Jack Wade and Janie Cabbagestalk Wade. She transitioned into eternal life on Friday, October 21, 2016 at the age of 95. She was educated in the public schools of Richland County, SC. She was amongst the second graduating class of the SC State Hospital School of Nursing for Negro Women at the State Park Division, graduating with the distinguished title of Registered Nurse. Nurse Rakes proudly served her country as a 2nd Lt. in the United States Army Nursing Corps from 1945-1946. Surviving are: her children, Thomas (Cherri) Rakes, Wade (Gwen) Rakes, Janne Rakes Middleton, and Eva (Roscoe) Wilson; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, other loving relatives and friends.
