Mooresville, North Carolina - Samuel Hugh Wilds, 97, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his loving family on January 7, 2022.
A native of Columbia,SC, he was a son of the late Marion Ellison and Kathryn Bridgman Wilds. Hugh was a WWII Marine Veteran, serving in the South Pacific. He was a graduate of University of South Carolina with a degree in Civil Engineering and was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He worked and retired from Owen Steel Company. He was a loving husband and father and enjoyed playing golf, gardening and playing bridge.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, January 29, 2022 at First Presbyterian Church of Gastonia with Rev. Daniel Commerford officiating. His family will greet friends following the service.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years Joyce Bruce Wilds; children, Sam Wilds, Jr. and wife Carol Ann, Carol Willeford and husband Mike, Ed Wilds and wife Tina, Trish Wilds-Barton and husband Bob; grandchildren, Brannon Wilds, William Wilds, Caleb Atkins, Ben Routh, and Andrea Barton; 7 great grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Arthur and Marion Wilds; sister Lucile McClure.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 1325 Mecklenburg Hwy, Mooresville NC 28115.
