Jay Warren COLUMBIA - Mr. Ivan Jay Warren, died January 17, 2018. His memorial service will be held in Columbia, SC at a later date.He was born in Urbana, IL, on May 19, 1926. Mr. Warren was the fifth child born to Iva Dell Ragan Warren and Irvin Guy Warren. Mr. Warren was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946.He served primarily in the Pacific on Landing Craft, Tank 1288 and Landing Ship, Tanks 128 and 792.Following the Japanese surrender, he was part of the first occupation forces in Japan at Yokosuka Naval Base, leaving that assignment in May 1946 with an honorable discharge from the Navy. He graduated from the University of Illinois with Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Economic Geography.Upon graduation, he began a 36-year career with CSX in real estate and industrial development.While working for CSX, he met Christine Harrison Dudley Warren, whom he married in 1953 in Huntington, WV. Following his retirement from CSX, he became a volunteer with the International Executive Service Corp (IESC), consulting and traveling to Bahrain, Panama and Sri Lanka.From 1991-1999, Mr. Warren was heavily involved with the return of seven of the former United States military bases to Panama, advising on the highest and best alternative uses for military properties. His volunteer work with IESC also provided many adventures, for example when the Tamil Tigers attacked and bombed the Sri Lanka airport on his intended day of departure. Mr. Warren has been a member and an officer of numerous business, civic and church organizations, including the Society of Office and Industrial Realtors, the Urban Land Institute, the American Economic Development Association and the Northeast Presbyterian Church in Columbia, SC. He was an avid gardener and amateur landscaper, and he loved sharing his flower arrangements with others.He also enjoyed keeping up with politics and current events, avidly reading numerous newspapers and periodicals until his death.Residing at Wildewood Downs since 2001, Mr. Warren enjoyed competing in the putting contests and discussing politics with the many friends he made there, while beautifying the campus and clubhouse with flowers from his garden. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, he loved spending time with his family. Mr. Warren was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Christine Harrison Dudley Warren, his sisters, Lois Warren and Mildred Warren Beach, and his brothers, Theodore Clark Warren and Charles Lindley Warren. Surviving Mr. Warren are his two daughters, Anne Dudley Warren of Columbus, OH, and Paige Warren Colpini and her husband Dr. Anthony William Colpini of Carrollton, GA; four devoted grandchildren, Anthony Tyler Colpini and his wife Lilla Theus Colpini of Columbia, SC, Austin Patrick Colpini and his wife Magan Cowart Colpini, of Dallas, TX, Caroline Paige Colpini of Atlanta, GA and Seth Harrison Warren and his wife Elizabeth Riemer Warren of Columbus, OH. He is also survived by five great grandchildren, William Harrison Colpini, Laura McCants Colpini, Guy Harman Colpini, Warren Dailey Colpini and Mackenzie Lynn Warren; and his sister, Martha Warren Wilson of Akron, OH.
