Nashville, Tennessee - Jerry Eugene Goad,79, of Nashville, TN, passed away on November 16, 2023, following a stroke in September.

Jerry was born on July 30, 1944, to Ruby Nell Jones Goad and Hershel E. Goad in Lafayette, TN. After Jerry graduated in 1962 from Isaac Litton High School in Nashville, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed at Great Lakes Naval Training Center, Charleston Navy Yard, and the Naval Nuclear Power Training Command in upstate NY. Jerry served on the U.S.S. Amberjack and the John C. Calhoun (SSBN 630) and served in the U.S. Naval Reserves after active duty, retiring in 1985 as a Lt. Commander, USNR.

In 1971, Jerry enrolled in the Electrical Engineering program at Tennessee Tech University and graduated in 1974 with a B.S.E.E. degree. He took a position at Union Carbide in Oak Ridge, TN, working at K-25 Gaseous Diffusion Plant. He then moved to Prattville, AL to work at Union Camp Corporation Paper Mill, and in 1982 he went to Greenville, SC to work with the design team for the Union Camp state of the art plant in Eastover, SC where he then worked for a number of years. Jerry also worked for Stone Container in Amelia Island, FL and was working at the Babcock Center in Columbia, SC at the time of his retirement.

Over the years, Jerry enjoyed riding motorcycles and went to the riding school at Nürburgring in the town of Nürburg, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany; rode the track at Road Atlanta; and loved cruising through the mountains. Later, he turned his full attention to playing golf and enjoyed courses around the southeast. Each spring for several years he played in the Annual National Retired Military Golf Classic in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Jerry was predeceased by his mother, his father, his uncle W.L. Goad, his uncle Hershel Jones, and his aunt, Grace Jones. He is survived by his daughters, Leigh (Creag) Trautman of Sunnyvale, CA and Kandyss (Mike) Cordle of Highlands, NC; his grandchildren, Nicholas Trautman of Santa Rosa, CA and Erica Trautman of Queens, NY. He is also survived by his brother Gerald (Carolyn) Goad, his niece Lisa (Jeff) Hutzel, his nephew Gerald (Danielle) Goad and their families, his cousin, Larry Goad, and his aunt, Hilda Jean Goad.

A memorial service will be in the future. The family requests donations be made to the Babcock Center Foundation, 2725 Banny Jones Ave., West Columbia, SC, 29170 or Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 3200 Trenholm Road, Columbia, SC 29204.
