John Brennan Obituary

John M. Brennan
November 2, 1941 - February 22, 2023
Columbia, South Carolina - John M. Brennan, 81, died February 22, 2023 after almost a decade of paralysis following a massive stroke. The funeral will be held Saturday, March 4 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m., also at the church. Interment will be held at Bush River Memorial Gardens immediately following the service.
Born in Atlanta, Georgia, November 2, 1941, John was the son of the late John M. and Elizabeth Thomas Brennan. His family moved to Columbia a few years later where he grew up, graduating from Catholic High School, then later from the University of South Carolina in 1964 with a B.S. in Business Administration.
John had a long, successful career with Southern Wine and Spirits where he was an advocate for all of his colleagues. He was loved by his clients whose friendships he still valued.
John is survived by his wife of 52 years, Judy Montgomery Brennan, his two daughters, Kathryn Bostrom (Jamie) of Lexington, Anne Brennan of Charleston, and son, John "Jay" Brennan (McCall) of Columbia. Also surviving are his beloved grandchildren, Drew Bostrom of Lexington, Baker and Anna Scott Brennan of Columbia. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Jo Gibson of Houston, Texas, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dr. Lucius and Mary Wates and sister-in-law, Esther Harrell, of Kingstree. John loved his many nieces and nephews, who he often entertained with his humor and stories. He leaves behind an army of faithful friends, including his best friend of over 68 years, Dave Etu. He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers-in-law, Tom Gibson and Edward Harrell.
John was an avid sports fan. He loved his Boston Red Sox, Green Bay Packers, The Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and the Gamecocks. He and Judy were Gamecock football season ticket holders for many years.
The family wishes to thank the care agencies and the numerous caregivers who affectionately cared for him for nearly ten years.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 6952 St. Andrews Road, or to the Pawmetto Lifeline, 1275 Bower Parkway.

John was a friend. John loved to laugh and wasn´t above telling a story or pulling your leg to get that laugh. Very caring person and would help you at the asking.
My thoughts are with Judy and the family. CjP
