Katherine Hite James
Katherine Hite James, loving wife, devoted sister, doting aunt and amazing friend to so many, passed away at her home in Palm Desert, California Tuesday, January 3 at the age of 74.
She was born on September 8, 1948, 1 of 6 children, to Louis and Gladys Hite in Florence, South Carolina. She played many sports but learned early that her passion was golf. She was the South Carolina Women's State Amateur Golf Championship in both 1966 and 1969 and Southern Women's Amateur Championship in 1970, achieving 7th in amateur ranking.
Kathy played 14 years on the LPGA, enjoying a very exciting and colorful life. She married the love of her life John Edward James (Buzzy) in 1992. They have been married for 30 years. Kathy has been very active in animal rescue, co-chairing dog shows, driving for Meals on Wheels, and helping with Junior golf events. She was loved and adored by all who knew her and was blessed with an overabundance of amazing friends.
She is survived by her husband Buzzy, brothers Carey (wife Paula), Arnold (wife Sharon), Peter (wife Susanne), sisters Sally (husband CD), Kissy (husband Bill), many nieces and nephews and 3 grand nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Animal Samaritans, 72120 Pet Land Place, Thousand Palms CA 92276.

I first met Kathy and her family in the mid 60's while playing golf in the Florence Junior golf tournament. Families from the club hosted players during the tournament. I stayed with her family during the tournament. She was a very sweet person and an exceptional golfer. My thoughts are with her family at this time.
