Larry Marchant Obituary

Larry Conrad Marchant

December 16, 1941 - November 23, 2024

West Columbia, South Carolina - Larry Conrad Marchant was born on December 16, 1941 and died on November 23, 2024. He was the youngest son of the late Carlisle B. and Doris Ballentine Marchant.

As an eleven year old, he learned the importance of a strong work ethic and sales skills going to work at his father's business, C.B. Marchant Produce, at the State Farmer's Market. While in high school, he went to work with his father at 3:30 before a full day in school. Working all morning before school did not slow him down. He established many life-long friends and was selected Mr. Brookland Cayce 1960. Larry was chosen as a band officer during his junior and senior years while the band was the South Carolina State Championship Band and the National Cherry Blossom Championship Band.

He loved serving as coach for the Security Federal team in Dixie Pee Wee Baseball and later the A&P team in Dixie Youth Baseball. In addition to his "baseball children," he also enjoyed and supported all the activities of his children and grandchildren and being there for them.

After a lifetime in the produce business, he retired from R.C. McEntire Company to enjoy his family, working in his yard, golf, fishing, hunting, and homes on the Saluda River and Fripp Island. His love and support for the South Carolina Gamecocks was legendary!

Larry's family was his pride and joy and the grandchildren could do no wrong! He is survived by his beloved wife, Jolene Jones Marchant and grandson, Andrew (Drewby) Conrad McQuillen of the home; sons Larry C. Marchant, Jr., Leslie C. Marchant and wife Lara; stepson Charles D. Epting and wife Mitzi. The older grandchildren called him "Bup" and the younger ones knew him as Papa and all adored him and the attention he gave each. His grandchildren are: Michael Marchant, the oldest and the one who gave him the name "Bup," Johnathan Marchant, Vivian Marchant, Cannon Marchant and wife Brittany, Landon Marchant and wife Abbey, Will Epting and fiancé Kayley Miles, Drew Epting and wife Morgan, Cole Epting, Drewby McQuillen and Rebecca McQuillen. Lane Marchant is his great-grandson.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Jeannie McQuillen and brothers, Brian, Billy, and Donnie Marchant.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 on Sunday, December 1, 2024 at Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church, 1000 B. Avenue, West Columbia, SC with visitation one hour prior to the service at 1:00. Burial will be at the Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations to Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church Paraments Fund or the Mt.
