Lynda Elder Ferguson

Lynda Elder Ferguson COLUMBIA Lynda Elder Ferguson, 91, died Saturday, October 29, 2016, at The Palmettos of Parklane. She was born December 25, 1924 in Albemarle, N.C. to the late Russell Britton and Mamie Killian Elder. She is survived by her son, D. Stevenson Ferguson, Jr. and his wife, Shelley of Port O'Connor, Texas; daughter, Carol F. Hipp and her husband, Reverend John W. Hipp of Florence, S.C. She has four grandchildren, Stephanie Anne King (Jim) of Charleston, S.C., Benjamin Hipp (Beth) of Pawleys Island, S.C., Christopher Ferguson (Katie) of Houston, Texas and Jefferson Ferguson (Megan) of Dallas, Texas. She also has six precious great-grandchildren, James and Connor King, Taves and Arden Hipp and Callen and Barrett Ferguson. She is also survived by her brother, Russell B. Elder of Spartanburg, S.C. In addition to her parents, Ms. Ferguson was predeceased by two sons, John D. Ferguson and David E. Ferguson. Ms. Ferguson was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. She retired from the S.C. Department of Mental Health. Ms. Ferguson was a member of Shandon Methodist Church where in her retirement she joyfully volunteered in the church office. Her church and those who gathered within were always close to her heart. Two special friends to Lynda and to her family were Carolyn Hall and Jo Thomas. We are forever grateful for their love and friendship with our Mother over these past years. Special appreciation is given to the Staff at The Palmettos of Parklane, especially Genivo and Valencia. These nurses and caregivers truly showed love, compassion and comfort during Mother's life and final weeks at The Palmettos. Thank you also to Compassionate Hospice Care, true angels that walk amongst us. A Celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 19, 2016, at Shandon United Methodist Church, 3407 Devine Street. The family will receive friends at the church in Player Hall following the service. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
