Born September 5, 1933, in Williamsburg County, she was a daughter of the late Charles William Griffith and the late Lynne DuRant Griffith. She was a graduate of Manning High School and attended Converse College. She completed a degree in nursing from USC and served as a RN at Richland Memorial Hospital and later at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, where she retired as Director of Continuing Education and Infection Control.
Lindy was an avid volunteer leader with the Boy Scouts of America in the Central South Carolina Council in Columbia. She was presented with the Silver Fawn Award, the highest honor given to a volunteer. She was the only recipient of the Silver Fawn Award as it later became a part of the Silver Beaver Award program.
Lindy was a former member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church (PCUSA) in Columbia and a member of New Covenant Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Manning.
She is survived by three sons, Charles Griffith Bowen of Atlanta, GA, the Rev. William R. Bowen of Kansas City, MO, and David L. Bowen of Fort Mill; three sisters, Betty Williams (Bob) of Fleming Island, FL, Charlen Cathcart (Jim) of Kiawah Island and Frankie Geddings (Billy) of Manning; two daughters-in-law, Gail Bowen of Kansas City, MO and Elena Bowen of Fort Mill; three grandchildren, Lia, Samantha, and Caroline; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2011, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles C. Tyler officiating. Burial will follow in the Manning Cemetery.
Visitation will be 6:00-7:30 p.m. Monday evening at Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the residence, 1047 Virginia Pine Court, Manning.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of South Carolina, 114 Capital Way, Manning 29102 or to a charity of one's choice.

Your Mother was a wonderful lady and was so pleasant to be with. I pray that God will bless you all during this time and give you the comfort you need.

Although I only knew Lindy through other family members, I never heard an unkind word said about her. She was held in high esteem by both my late husband, Edwin, and sister-in-law, Flo. I'm sure she is being welcomed in Heaven.
