Mary Wendt Obituary

Mary Bull Pinckney Wendt COLUMBIA - Mary Bull Pinckney Wendt, 90, of Columbia, died peacefully at her home Tuesday, May 22, 2018. Mrs. Wendt was born on December 14, 1927, in Orangeburg, South Carolina, a daughter of the late Major General Francis Douglas Pinckney and Mary Davie Bull Pinckney. She attended St. Mary's Junior College in Raleigh, North Carolina and graduated from the University of South Carolina with a B. A. Degree in History, where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. Upon graduation, she moved to New York City, where she met her late husband of 62 years, Allan Windsor Wendt. She was well-respected and loved in the community where she was an active member of the Anglican Church of the Epiphany. Mrs. Wendt served as President of the Junior League of Columbia and was a "Golden Girl" member of the Columbia Chapter of the National Society of Colonial Dames. Of all the organizations she belonged to, the one dearest to her heart was the "Bridge Club." Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her four children and nine grandchildren. She is survived by her three daughters, Mary Davie Wendt of Petaluma, CA, Jean Logan Jones (Tom) of White Oak, SC, and Frances Wendt Burns (Brian) of Columbia, SC; nine grandchildren, Wells Logan (Bethany) of Atlanta, GA, Katherine Logan of Atlanta, GA, Leland Burns (Alyssa) of Steilacoom, WA, Caroline Chisholm (Alex) of Houston, TX, Elizabeth Osbourne (Anthony) of Nashville, TN, Paige Comaduran of Vacaville, CA, Alexandra Comaduran of Long Beach, CA, William Wendt and Elias Wendt of Charleston, SC; two great-grandchildren, Hannah and Maddie Logan of Atlanta, GA; and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Allan Windsor Wendt, Jr., of Charleston, SC and her sister, Alice Pinckney Evans of Greenville, SC. The service for Mrs. Wendt will be held at 11 o'clock, Saturday, May 26th, at the Anglican Church of the Epiphany, 2523 North Beltline Blvd., Columbia with Bishop Paul Hewett officiating. A committal service will follow at 1 o'clock at the Church of the Holy Cross Cemetery, 335 North Kings Highway, Stateburg, SC, with Father Michael Ridgill officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 25th, from 5 until 7 o'clock at the Woodhill Estates Clubhouse, Sagamore Drive, Columbia, SC. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family. May a great Southern Lady rest in peace. Memorials may be made to the Anglican Church of the Epiphany, 2512 N.
