Max Norrell Obituary

Max Andrew Norrell OPELIKA, Ala. - Max Andrew Norrell was born February 25, 1994, in Columbia, SC, and passed away Friday, May 20, 2016, in Opelika, AL, where he had been living for the past several years. He was 22 years old. Max attended Brockman Elementary School, Hand Middle School, and Dreher High School (class of 2012). Max had a kind heart and loved music, animals, and reading. Above all else, he was known for his irreverent sense of humor and unpretentious intellect. Max was more loved than he ever knew. Paraphrasing the sentiments of his closest friend, the affect Max had on people's lives is nothing short of profound. To say Max will be greatly missed would be an epic understatement. Max is survived by his mother, Sally Pleicones Norrell of Columbia, SC, and father, David Norrell of Opelika, AL; maternal grandparents, Costa and Donna Pleicones of Columbia, SC; paternal grandparents, Nan and Curtis Cooper of Black Mountain, NC, and Richard and Barbara Norrell of Opelika, AL; great-grandmother, LaMerle Anderson of Opelika, AL; aunts, Laura Pleicones of Charlotte, NC, and Laura Edwards of Mars Hill, NC; uncle, Andy Norrell and his wife, Jessica, of North Augusta, SC; as well as numerous other family members. A private service was held in Opelika, AL. A celebration of Max's life for family and friends will be held in Columbia in the near future. For those inclined to make a memorial donation, the family suggests the Best Friends Animal Society (bestfriends.org) or the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP.org).

Not sure what to say?

May 29, 2016

Dear Norrell & Pleicones Family,
From all the F/B tributes, stories, as well as things Max wrote and what Joe & Elle have told me, It's clear that Max had a remarkable grasp (especially for one so young) on the struggles of the human condition. He recognized and found humor in the absurdities and contradictions of life - but, humor without malice. I can't help but echo what everyone else keep saying: Though his time on earth brief, Max Andrew Norrell made more of an impression on the world than most people, who live to be 90.
Sending you all Love,
Elisabeth Dunlap Christopher

Sally & David,
My thoughts are with you both. There are no words for the loss of a child. No matter of the age, they are always our child. You both were good parents. Please know your friends are here when you need us.

I loved you Max, more than you'll ever know. And I know you loved me because you never hesitated to show me. I'll never be able to completly wrap my head around all of this but then again I couldn't ever quite figure you out. I know I'll see you again one day, I already dream about you every night... Be easy my friend, I love you
