Roger Daniels Obituary

Roger Daniels COLUMBIA Roger Howard Daniels, 61, of Columbia, left this Earth to dwell in the house of The Lord on September 30, 2014, after a battle with early onset Alzheimer's. He was born June 2, 1953, in Columbia as the first son to the late Mr. and Mrs. Pete E. and Mel (Parler) Daniels. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Mr. Jeff Daniels. He is survived by his eternally loving and devoted wife of more than 30 years, Mrs. Kay (Dial) Daniels; his only child, Katherine Daniels Steward (Andrew); his truest source of pride and joy, two granddaughters, Hadden and Hailey; two beloved sisters, Elaine Paul and Jennie Koehne (Ed). He also leaves behind many treasured nieces and nephews. Roger was a 1975 graduate of the University of South Carolina where he received his bachelor's degree in business administration. Roger retired in 2008 from the Career and Technology Office with Richland School District One as a Special Needs job coach. Prior to his time with CATE, he worked as a personnel administrator with the Richland County Government and as a test administrator with the Fort Jackson Testing Center. In his spare time, Roger enjoyed life to the fullest: gardening, playing tennis, exercising, watching sports, and traveling. He never met a crossword puzzle he couldn't solve, was a Jeopardy aficionado, and a fan of classic TV and movies. His favorite pastime, without a doubt, was spending time with "his girls." A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 3 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. His family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the nurses and staff of the Rosalie Bomar Center at Still Hopes, the Ellis Crossing wing of Carroll Campbell Place, and to Tri County Hospice for their love, support and exceptional care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made, in honor of Roger, to the Alzheimer's Association, 3223 Sunset Blvd. #100, West Columbia, SC 29169 or to Hospice Care of Tri County, 166 Stoneridge Drive #100, Columbia, SC 29210. It is difficult to express what a wonderful childhood friend Roger was. His family lived two doors down from ours and we grew up together in a simpler time ... in and out of each other's houses, playing outside until dark, and letting our imaginations take us on some great adventures. As I have reflected over the last few days, all of those memories have warmed my heart. I am so sorry for your loss, Kay, Katherine, Elaine, and Jennie. We are praying for all of your family as you remember Roger and celebrate his life.
