Ronald LeRoy Slice

West Columbia, South Carolina - Ronald LeRoy Slice, 85, was born at 12:12 am, January 1, in Columbia, SC, the first baby born in the New Year of 1939. He was the only child of LeRoy Slice of White Rock, SC and Bernice Augusta Rast Slice of Cameron, SC.

Ron attended Columbia area schools having graduated from Dreher High School, class of 1957. He continued his education at Clemson College, graduating cum laude in the class of 1961 with a BS in electrical engineering.

Ron began his career working for the Naval Research Lab in Washington, DC. In 1966, he moved back to Columbia to begin his career with South Carolina Electric & Gas Company. Ron retired from SCE&G as Manager, Substation and Transmission Maintenance and Construction. He was a Registered Professional Engineer and a member of the Southeastern Electric Exchange.

Ron grew up in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Columbia, where his family were members and where he was confirmed, taught Sunday School and served on Church Council and as its Chairman.

Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Laraine Haltiwanger Slice, his three daughters, Terri Slice Bickley (Roger), Diane Slice Gillespie and Joanne Slice Wactor, and his grandchildren, Austen Gillespie, Amanda Bickley Kimball (Aaron), Robert Bickley, Erica Bickley, and Savanna Wactor. Additionally, he is survived by two stepchildren, Hope Fowler Carter (Chandler) and Vance Fowler.

Celebration of Life Service will be at 3:00 p.m., Monday, May 6, 2024 at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, 119 N. Church Street, Lexington, SC.

Visitation and reception will precede the service from 1:30-2:30 pm in the Church Fellowship Hall. Burial will be private.

The family would like to extend much love and gratitude to the great number of health care professionals who cared so well for Ron over the years. Special thanks goes to his daily CNA's who went above and beyond - Geraldine, Jo, Iesha, Lisa, Jasmine, Schela, Brenda, Carolyn, Mary Ann and Twanian.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested for St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, 119 N. Church Street, Lexington, SC or a charity of one's choosing.

Barr-Price Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, is assisting the family with arrangements.
