Selma Gilland Jones GREENWOOD - Selma Singleton Gilland Jones, 87, died peacefully in the sanctity of her home on September 24, 2012 in Greenwood, South Carolina. Born in Kingstree October 28, 1924, she was a daughter of Wilmot Singleton and Selma Thorn Gilland. She attended the University of South Carolina, where she met her beloved husband William Townes Jones III. She lived her life devoted to her husband, her children, her grandchildren and her friends. She passed as sweetly and gently as she lived her life. Everyone that crossed her path was greeted with kindness and warmth. Selma was a member of the Holly Garden Club and a founding member of her bridge club. She enjoyed her membership of St. Helena's Chapter of Episcopal Church Women and she served joyously with the Daughters of the King. Her favorite prayer was by Saint Francis of Assisi ... "Lord make me an instrument of thy peace". She is survived by her five children William Townes Jones IV (Rosann) Howard Gilland Jones, Selma Thorn Jones, Nelson Logan Jones (Jan) and Caroline Jones Jenkins (Ralph) and her five grandchildren Gilland, Townes Adair, Isabella, and Campbell Jones, and Jones Jenkins. Mrs. Jones leaves special friend and family member of 50 years Annie Laura Saunders. Mrs. Jones is also survived by her siblings Mary Louise Gilland King, Nell Flynn Gilland Rogers, and Wilmot Singleton Gilland. She was predeceased by her husband of 48 years and by her brother Boone Thorn Gilland. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 27, at 11 am at the Church of the Resurrection, 700 South Main Street, Greenwood. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in Bishop's Hall. Mrs. Jones will be buried at a private service in the Jones family cemetery in Ware Shoals.
