Mrs. Quattlebaum died Sunday, April 10, 2022 at the Presbyterian Home, Columbia South Carolina. Born in Lexington County, November 23, 1934, she was the widow of James Robert Quattlebaum and the youngest of nine children born to the late Ardis Lawrence and Dessie Corley Lown. She graduated from Lexington High School and attended the University of South Carolina. She was employed by the Internal Revenue Service and the VA Regional Office, from which she retired in 1992. Sybil was a classic, genteel southern woman who loved the Lord, her husband, her family, her many friends, and her church. She served others very well, brightening their days with fresh food from her garden, her wonderful cooking, and her signature "Jiki bread". She was an avid water skier who enjoyed time at Lake Murray with her family. She loved to sing and had a beautiful voice that rang loud and clear at St. David Lutheran Church. She loved music and dancing, Johnny Mathis being her favorite singer and her beloved husband being her favorite dance partner. She will be greatly missed by those who were blessed to know her.
As a lifelong member of St. David, she was a Sunday school teacher; member of Martha Group of WELCA; David Sunday school class; and Chancel Choir, where she served as President and Treasurer. She served as nursery role secretary beginning in 1970, filling the post when her mother died. She was secretary of the church athletic committee and member of the Committee of 100 Lutheran Men in Missions. She served as secretary of the American Cancer Society New Voice Club.
Surviving are children, Karen Roberts of West Columbia, Kim Jolley (Lane) of West Columbia and Jill Quattlebaum of New Bern, NC; grandchildren, Tyler Roberts, Zachary Roberts (Rachel), Katelyn Jolley, John Jolley and Desi Byrum; great-grandchildren, Reagan Roberts and Leighton Roberts.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband, James Robert Quattlebaum; granddaughter, Ashleigh Rebecca Shealy; siblings, Lorene Sox (Ralph), A. Leon Lown (Ruby), Raymond C. Lown (Virginia), J. Harold Lown (Margie), Ervin F. Lown (Mary), Velda Livingston (Alton), Jewell Shull (Norman) and Emily Celeste Lown.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the Presbyterian Home of Columbia and Abbey Road Hospice. Special thanks to Russell Roberts, Skip Byrum, and other family members and friends who supported Sybil with love and prayers. The family also extends a very special thank you to Sybil's primary caregiver, Bonita Bennett, who loved and cared for her as if she were family. Words cannot express how thankful we are.
