Thomas Watts Obituary

Thomas L. Watts Jr. ELGIN - A funeral service for Thomas L. Watts Jr., of Elgin, will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, February 22, 2014 at St. David's Episcopal Church, 605 Polo Rd, Columbia. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 pm Friday, February 21, 2014 at Kornegay & Moseley. Memorials may be made to the church. Thomas passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at the age of 75. Born in Savannah, GA, he was the son of the late Dorothy Marrow Watts and Thomas L. Watts, Sr. Tom was a lifelong member of the Episcopal Church; Warden at St. Michael's & All Angels; founding member of and Senior Warden of St. David's Episcopal Church. Tom was instrumental in helping with the design of St. David's Church, the Building Committee and Cemetery Committee. Tom donated the iron gates for the cemetery and was told by Bishop Beckham that St. David's was built like a church should be built. Tom attended Auburn University where he was a Junior Warden and lived at the Bell Tower Church. Tom was very involved with community service. He worked with the Domestic Abuse Center for over 20 years, was on the leadership advisory board for the Boy Scouts and a Rotarian with the Columbia chapter for 37 years. He is survived by his wife, Sara Vinson Watts; children, Mark (Lynn) Watts, Rebecca (Tom) Collins, Betsy Watts and Donna Anderson; grandchildren, Matthew (Betsy) Watts, Caitlin Watts (Jason Woodard), Dallas Collins, Sydney Collins and Amanda Collins. The family would like to give many thanks to those who meant so much to Tom and his family: From Cardiac Rehab Providence Downtown where he was known as "T-Shirt Watts"; to Nate Rhodes with Always Best Care for their wonderful and caring support especially Mrs. Sylvia, Nicole and JaVanna.
