Martha Amos

Martha Jean Amos (Joyce), born on April 4, 1942 in Sandy Ridge, went peacefully home to be with the Lord on September 6, 2025 surrounded by her loving family and friends.

Born in her Sandy Ridge home, Martha grew up to be quiet, thoughtful and beautiful. A year after being selected 'Miss Sandy Ridge High' she graduated from high school in 1960 with two loves: playing basketball, and Donnie - the boy who would rebound for her during practice whom she would later marry on May 21, 1966. After graduating from Draughn's Business College, she worked for Hanes Hosiery and the Bowman Gray School of Medicine. In 1972, she and Donnie founded the Red Top Cafe where Martha loved serving the community, perfecting her hushpuppies, homemade vanilla shakes, and Red Toppers.

Martha attended Delta Methodist Church where she and Donnie faithfully served for over five decades. She was a member of Delta's Women's Group, could always be found in the kitchen during every church event, and helped support Donnie in the positions he held at church. She was a devoted wife and mother who loved her family deeply and adored her siblings. She was loved by all who knew her.

Martha is survived by her loving daughter Jennifer Paige Dyer (Jeff), of Scottsdale, AZ; grandchildren Kennedy Paige Brooks (Luke), of Pembroke, NC and Landry Grace Dyer, of Scottsdale, AZ; as well as her two big brothers, Walter "Frank" Joyce Jr, of Atlanta, GA, and Raeford "Bud" Andrew Joyce (Mary), of Walkertown, NC.

Loved ones who have gone before her include her husband of 57 years, Donald Wade Amos, as well as her parents Frank & Ila Sheppard Joyce, and sister Sarah Virginia Dodson.

The family received friends from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Delta Methodist Church (5984 NC 704 Hwy, Sandy Ridge, NC). A Celebration of Life service to honor Martha was held at 11 a.m. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
