Phillip Ring

LAWSONVILLE - Phillip Dale Ring of Lawsonville passed away October 14, 2025, at Forsyth Medical Center. Phil was born to Delbert and Betty Duncan Ring in Stokes County where he grew up and spent most of his life. He graduated from North Stokes High School and Western Carolina University where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. Phil retired from North Stokes High School where he taught biology, anatomy, and physiology; served as chairperson of the science department; sponsored the Science Club and Student Government Association; and coached the girls' softball team. He was selected Teacher of the Year at both local and regional levels. In addition to teaching, he owned a trucking business and traveled the east coast in his Peterbilt truck, Nell.

Phil was known far and wide for his bowhunting skills. In 1972 he was named Bowhunter of the Year by the North Carolina Bowhunters Association. In 2012 he killed his fourth Pope and Young deer. He lectured at bowhunting conventions and taught many local people the sport. He had a talent for gardening and cooking and enjoyed sharing his produce and dishes with family and neighbors.

Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert and Betty Ring, and special mother-in-law, Maude C. Moore.

He is survived by his loving wife Phyllis M. Ring; children Megan (Anthony) McDaniel; Tanner (Marielle) Ring; sister Donna Ring (Matt); stepchildren Jeff Hole; Anthony (Sara) Hole; special stepdaughter Melanie Hole Burris; step-grandchildren Emily (Ben) Newgard; Hannah (Chase) Countryman; Nick Hole; brother in-law Grant (Cathryn) Moore; nephew-in-law Ashley (Jessica) Moore; great-niece Kinsley Moore and great–nephew Liam Moore, both of whom he adored.

To honor Phil's wishes, there will be no formal visitation or service.
