Ernest Brodeur Obituary

The world lost a truly special person on Friday, April 30, 2021 when Ernest Martin Brodeur, of Attleboro, MA passed away after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was the son of the late Lionel D. Brodeur and Simone (Vadeboncoeur) Brodeur. Born in Providence, RI in 1946, he grew up in the Warwick area, graduated from Bishop Hendricken High School and enlisted in the Army in 1966. He was stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky.

Ernie started his 46 year career at Cumberland Farms as a store clerk and worked his way up in the organization, holding various roles along the way. He was a colleague and mentor to many and had a flare for emceeing company events. He was a natural speaker, a trait that has passed down thru the family.

It is often so hard to encompass the breadth and depth with which someone has impacted others. Ernie was the epitome of service to others and as his family, we've been blessed with such an outpouring of support and expression of love and appreciation for the goodness that he brought into the world. He liked to say that there are two important dates in your life: "the day you are born and the day you figure out why." His faith was foundational to his life and he counts St. John the Evangelist Church in Attleboro, MA as his second home having served as a CCD teacher for many years as well as a Lectern. He was thrilled to be able to attend mass there one last time shortly before his passing. He also served as a long-time volunteer with St. Vincent De Paul coordinating food deliveries and helping with the monthly thrift store.

He is predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Brenda J. (Keltner) of Columbia, KY, his daughter LeaAnne Marie and his sister, Clare (Brodeur) Harding of Stamford, CT. He is survived by his loving daughters, Shelly (Brodeur) Masson and husband, Scott Masson of Williston, VT and Nicole Brodeur of Attleboro, MA. He is also survived by two grandsons, Rylee and Logan Masson of Williston, VT. Ernie was thankful to be able to spend time with his brother, Martin Brodeur of Fairfield, IA and his sister, Constance O'Connor of Stonington, CT in the weeks prior to his passing. He is lovingly remembered by his wonderful nieces, Amy O'Connor Van Pelt, Sharon Greenwood, Laura Mathewson and Mary Frances Gorgas and his companion for the last few years, Christine Barry, whose own love of travel encouraged Ernie to get his passport and finally get a stamp on it during a family trip to Montreal.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital - https://www.stjude.org/ or St. Charles School at 19 Grant St in Rochester, NH would be truly appreciated.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation on Saturday, May 8, 2021 from 10-12 PM at Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck Street, Attleboro. A Funeral service will be conducted at 12 Noon. Burial will be private.

My condolences to the Brodeur Family. May your wonderful memories of Ernie bring you comfort and peace during these sad days. Ernie and I worked together for many, many years at Cumberland Farms. We worked on several projects, and he was always a pleasure to work with. Rest In Peace, my friend. Mike Pappas

Our hearts were saddened when we learned for one of the greatest individuals we have had the pleasure to known. There was no one kinder than Ernie. We spent over 40 years working together. He always showed such pride in his family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family as you reflect on Ernie´s special and amazing life.
