Frederick Frithsen Obituary

Frederick Charles Frithsen of Rockport passed away unexpectedly on December 17, 2021, after a brief illness at Boca Raton Regional Hospital at the age of 72. He is survived by his wife, Sally Frithsen of Rockport; daughter, Kathleen Stern of Norton, and her husband Steven; daughter, Wendy Baglione of Milford; son, Frederick Frithsen II of Norwood and his wife Christine; grandchildren, Joshua, Brett, Caitlyn, Olivia, Ava, Matthew and Layla. Fred is also survived by his sisters and brothers, Thomas and Lisa Frithsen, Teri and Sam Gatton, Toni and John Sharp, Greg and Tomi Frithsen, Dolli Mello, Mark and Kristi Frithsen and beloved aunts and uncles, Flossie LeMaster, Carl Frithsen, Phyllis Frithsen and Roberta Byrnes and her husband Tom. Fred also had many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Fred is predeceased by his parents, Harold and Dorothy; brother, Harold; sister, Lynn, and his loving in-laws, Richard and Catherine Burbank.
Fred was a well-respected member of the town of Rockport. He loved his family and had many friends from his golfing outings, refereeing days and from his job as a town clerk. Fred worked at the Cape Ann Tool Company and was a police officer before becoming the town clerk of Rockport for 37 years. In his retirement he worked for the Associated Press as an election reporter for the state of Massachusetts. Fred was on the Board of Appeals and a member of many committees and boards over the years. Fred was a past member and president of the Rockport Rotary Club as well as a current member of the Elks Club, Board #892. He was always involved in sports in one way or another. Fred was on the Board of Directors and was a member of the Rockport Golf Club. He was also a basketball referee for over 35 years and a lacrosse referee in recent years.
Fred was always very involved in his children's and grandchildren's lives. His favorite times were with his 7 grandchildren whether it be walking downtown to the candy store, showing them the wharf and breakwater, and his favorite, taking them to McDonalds and Dairy Queen. He loved to watch them play sports and attended as many games as possible during the years.
Fred was a movie buff, and his family was hard pressed to find one he hadn't seen before. In his later years he loved playing games on his iPad and listening (as well as trying to sing) country music. Fred especially enjoyed traveling to Florida for the winter and playing golf in the St. Pete Beach area.
Fred will be extremely missed by his friends and family. Due to Covid the family will have a private gathering in January. A ceremony and Celebration of Life will happen at the Rockport Country Club in the spring.
