Frederick O’Connell Obituary

Frederick "FO" O'Connell (1952-2024) was born in Providence, Rhode Island to Robert and Maureen (Gorman) O'Connell (both dec'd), also originally from Rhode Island, who were longtime residents of Attleboro, MA. Fred passed away in Tampa, Florida in November 2024.

Fred graduated from AHS in 1970 and attended URI before joining the Air National Guard. He then transferred to the Navy to pursue his dream of becoming a SEAL. He graduated Basic Underwater Demolition School (BUDS) in 1976 and served in a multitude of positions with a deployment in the first Gulf War. FO was both an East Coast and West Coast SEAL, serving with Team's 1,2 and 4 achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer before taking a commission and retired from active duty as Commander. He served honorably for more than 33 years. Upon his retirement from the Navy, FO embarked on a new career with the Civil Service of the United States Special Operations Command in Tampa continuing to support the Special Operations community.

He leaves behind the love of his life, Angela Morrell of Tampa Florida, his brother, Michael O'Connell of Greene, Rhode Island, and sister Colleen Schillinger of Warwick, Rhode Island, and too many friends and colleagues to count. He was an avid golfer, spending every day hitting golf balls and working out, with tournaments on the weekends.

FO would like to thank all his friends and family who reached out to him and cared for him during his final days. He was well loved and will truly be missed. We know he is in heaven with Jesus and we will see him again.

Memorial services will remain private.
