Gladys Johnson Obituary

Gladys M. Johnson, 86, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 after a three year long battle with cancer.

Born May 16, 1937 in Attleboro, MA She was the daughter of the late John and Helen (Hughes) Johnson.

Gladys was a lifelong resident of North Attleboro. She graduated from North Attleboro High School in 1955. She took a job with the U.S. Navy in Washington, D.C. only to return to North Attleboro to get married the following year.

Gladys worked for many years for the North Attleboro School Department as a "Lunchroom Lady". She enjoyed being around all the children and would come home telling her family about all the funny things the kids would say and do. She then went on to work for the L.G. Balfour Company for several more years. It was after that, that she went back to school and became certified as a Home Health Aid. She soon became employed by the Community Visiting Nurses Association, in Attleboro, Ma. It was here that she found her true calling. She loved going into people's homes to help them with whatever they needed. She often said that she wished she had done this job her whole life.

When she wasn't working, Gladys enjoyed going with her group of friends to square dancing events. She also loved to travel to places like Aruba, Nashville, Florida, and Canada and many more places in between. When she was at home she loved to sneak away to the area casinos to play the slot machines. She loved to watch the show Chronicle, and then go to the places that they talked about on the show. In her spare time she loved doing crossword puzzles, raising tomatoes, and sitting on her deck and watching the birds, and animals such as the deer and bunnies in the backyard.

Gladys leaves behind her daughters, Cheryl Collito of Spring Hill Florida, and Sandra (Dargis) Hayes of North Attleboro, and her brother George O. Johnson of North Attleboro. Also her beloved grandsons Brad and his wife Thea, and Chris and his wife April , and great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by brothers, John, Owen, and William, and sisters, Helen and Ada, and daughter Susan.
