Laurence G. Burke, Jr., 87, of North Attleboro, MA passed away peacefully on September 9, 2021, at Walpole Healthcare in Walpole, MA following a period of declining health. He was the husband of the late Constance Marie (Gaudet) Burke to whom he was married on April 4, 1959, and enjoyed 50 years of marriage prior to her death on May 13, 2009.
Born in Milton, MA on September 5, 1934, he was a son of the late Laurence G. Burke, Sr., and the late Mary F. (Murray) Burke. Raised and educated in Dorchester, MA, Mr. Burke was a graduate of the Boston Trade High School for Boys and earned an associate's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
Mr. Burke was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during the Korean War era.
He was the president of SPEARS, Inc, in Norwood, MA for more than 25 years prior to his retirement in 1995.
A resident of the North Attleboro community since 2000, Mr. Burke previously resided in Norwood, MA from 1972 – 2000.
He was a former communicant of the Transfiguration of the Lord Parish – Sacred Heart.
Mr. Burke will be lovingly remembered for being a man devoted to his family. He held his private pilot's license, was a member of the Sharon Rod and Gun Club, enjoyed freshwater fishing, particularly salmon fishing and was a lifelong fan of both the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.
He leaves his cherished children: Laurence G. Burke and his wife, Marie (Sullivan) Burke of North Attleboro, MA; Catherine M. Burke Lemansky of Franklin, MA and Kevin M. Burke and his wife, Cheryl (McMann) Burke of Milton, MA; 8 loving grandchildren: Sean P. Burke and his wife, Alison, of Braintree, MA; Kathleen M. Filipe and her husband, Kyle, of Dedham, MA; Patrick L. Burke of Attleboro, MA; Courtney F. Burke of Milton, MA; Kristen E. Burke of Milton, MA; Sarah M. Lemansky of Franklin, MA; Matthew G. Lemansky of Franklin, MA and Grace E. Lemansky of Franklin, MA; two great grandchildren: Delaney C. Burke of Braintree, MA and Jacob P. Filipe of Dedham, MA; two brothers: Daniel R. Burke and Thomas J. Burke both of Dorchester, MA and several nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.
He was the father of the late Theresa M. Burke who died on December 5, 2019.
Family and friends are cordially invited to attend Visitation with Veteran's Honors on Monday, September 13, 2021, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, MA.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Martha Catholic Church, South Street, Plainville, MA.
There will be no funeral cortege from the funeral home prior to the commencement of the Funeral Mass.
Burial with full military honors will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery and Arboretum, Mount Hope Street, North Attleboro, MA.
The use of facemasks and social distancing is encouraged for those in attendance.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mr. Burke's name may be made to the Boston Higashi School – Autism, 800 North Main Street, Randolph, MA 02368 to benefit the school's Emergence Program.The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful, compassionate care provided by Kindred Hospice, in particular, Sibeli Sharkey.
