Paul Bernier Obituary

Paul Wilfrid Bernier 04/02/1935 - 04/28/2024

Paul Wilfrid Bernier, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and respected Senior Master Sergeant of the United States Air Force, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2024, in Attleboro, Massachusetts, at the age of 89.

Born on April 2, 1935, in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, Paul developed a reputation for his love of a good meal, the joy he found in humor, and the unwavering devotion he held for his wife and family. Together, Paul and Margaret were avid cruisers, an activity that he loved and shared with his family. He was an avid fan of golf and the Patriots.

A graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Central Falls, RI, Paul went on to serve his country with distinction as an aircraft maintenance supervisor in the Air Force from 1953 until 1976, which included service during the Korean War and in Vietnam. Following his military career, Paul worked for several auto dealerships before retiring in 2000. Paul was an active member of his local Elks Club and rose to the position of Exalted Ruler, a role in which he took great pride.

Paul is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Margaret Ann Bernier (née Ellis); his daughters, Denise (Bernier) Ames (Dennis) of Carmichael, Calif. and Michele Bernier-Skaer (James) of Wales, UK; his stepchildren, Gary Chu (Pat) of Seekonk, Mass. and Susan Ellis (Anne Krive) of Pawtucket; along with his cherished grandchildren, Sondra Ames-Hauger (Christopher) and Alexis (Ames) Johnson (Ryan), Scott Derham (Kate), Jonathan Derham (Joanne), Christopher Chu (Angel), Timothy Chu (Heather), Lauren (Chu) Darling (Kyle), Julian Krive, and 18 great-grandchildren. He dearly cherished his grand- and great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leopold Bernier and Alice Bernier (née Couture) of Pawtucket. Paul also loved and cherished his dog, Gemma, with whom he is now reunited for endless love and cuddles.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at Duffy-Poule Funeral Home in Attleboro, Massachusetts, visiting hour at 10:00 a.m. and service at 11:30 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow at 1:15 p.m. at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. The family kindly invites all to attend a meal at The Chateau in Norton, Massachusetts at 3:30 p.m.

Notes of condolences can be sent to Duffy-Poule or shared on the website, www.duffy-poule.com. The warmth and laughter Paul brought to those around him will be deeply missed, yet his spirit will continue to live on through the many lives he touched.
