Attleboro – Penelope A. (Shaw) Castro 93, of Attleboro, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, September 8, 2021. She was the devoted wife to the late Raymond O. Castro Sr.
Born September 2, 1928 in North Attleboro, MA to the late George and Ada (Brown) Shaw. Penelope was raised and educated in North Attleboro and had been a resident of Attleboro for the past 71 years.
Penelope's greatest joy was being a homemaker to her adored large family. She was a longtime communicate of Saint Vincent de Paul Parish, formally Holy Ghost, where she was a member of the church choir. She enjoyed summer vacations in Bristol, RI, visits to Cape Cod and regular exercise.
Penelope is survived by her loving children, Raymond O. Castro Jr. of Attleboro, Ralph Castro and wife Cheryl of Attleboro, Dianne Blais and husband William of Attleboro, Deborah Plumb and husband Steven of Attleboro, Anthony S. Castro and wife Marguerite of Attleboro, John Castro and wife Michelle of Pennsylvania, Bernadette Cook and husband Ronald of Attleboro and Russell Castro and wife Doreen of Swansea; she is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren and 3 step- great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her son, Stephen F. Castro; sister's, Katherine Pinto, June Everton, Grace Shaw, Dorothy Everton, Mae Blanchard, Laura Shaw; brother's, Edward Shaw, Donald Shaw, George Shaw, Fredrick Shaw, and Joseph Shaw.
Her family would like to thank the staff of The Branches of North Attleboro for all the wonderful care they gave her while as a resident the past 5 months. Beacon Hospice, ComfortForCare Senior Services for all your support and care in her final weeks. Also Dr. Rajani Mallick and staff, the Attleboro and North Attleboro Fire Department and the Attleboro Police Department.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, September 12, 2021 at the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck Street, Attleboro. For those who wish to pay their respects masks are optional.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, September 13, 2021 at St. Vincent de Paul Parish, 71 Linden Street, Attleboro. There will be no funeral procession from the funeral home to the church.
Burial will follow in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Attleboro.
