Robert Thibedeau Obituary

Robert B. "Bob" Thibedeau, 98, a longtime resident of Plainville, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2025, six years after the loss of his beloved wife, Margaret "Peg" (Hennessey) Thibedeau, with whom he shared 67 years of marriage.

Born in East Dedham, MA on November 9, 1926, he was the loving son of the late James and Annie (Brennan) Thibedeau.

Bob grew up in East Dedham and, following high school, briefly attended Boston Trade School to learn machinist skills. He left school to apprentice with the railroad and later studied diesel engine repair at the University of Chicago before joining the U.S. Navy during World War II. He proudly served as a Motor Machinist Mate 2nd Class from 1943 to 1946, taking part in the historic landings at Iwo Jima aboard LSTs.

After the war, Bob returned to work for the railroad as a machinist and mechanic for 17 years before transitioning to a career with Metropolitan Life Insurance, where he served as an agent for 21 years. Even after retiring, he stayed active, taking on various part-time jobs and continuing to learnincluding a stint in bartending school later in life.

Bob was a proud member of the Elks and a faithful usher at Saint Marthas Catholic Church in Plainville. He had a lifelong love of the outdoors and enjoyed bird watching, golfing in a local league, and playing cards into the early morning hours with his sister Virginia, her husband Bob, and his brother Jack. He and Peg were longtime members of a bowling league and loved to dance. Together, they created lasting memories camping with their children and grandchildren.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter through his five children, nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

A private graveside service for the family will be held, at which time Bob will be laid to rest with Peg at Mount Hope Cemetery & Arboretum in North Attleboro.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bobs memory to your favorite charity.
