Thomas Castro Obituary

Thomas O. Castro, CPA, 91, a lifelong resident of Attleboro, MA passed away on October 18, 2025.

Thomas was predeceased by his parents Manuel and Mary Castro, and his siblings, Richard, Raymond, and Manuel Jr. and his sibling-in-laws Penelope Castro, Stella Burdick, John and Vera Carmen & James Lupo. He is survived by his sister Marjorie Castro, in-laws Adriana Castro, Doris Castro and Susie Lupo.

He was married to Clara A. Castro for 63 years until her passing in 2021.

Together, they were blessed with seven children, twenty grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. Tom had 26 nieces and nephews and others that were honored to call him uncle.

Tom proudly served his country as a Marine. He would always state "once a Marine always Marine" and proudly shared the story that his first date with Clara was at the Marine Corps Ball. He was fortunate to serve during peace time and spent a tour of duty in Okinawa, Japan.

After his time in the military, Tom worked for the IRS for several years and then a local accounting firm while obtaining his college degree from Bryant College. He started his own accounting firm in 1971 in Attleboro. At that time, he had seven children and only five clients.

Tom was a longtime parishioner at St. John the Evangelist Church in Attleboro. His Catholic faith was especially important to him. Educated by the Sisters at Holy Ghost Parish in Attleboro and the Brothers at Monsignor Coyle High School in Taunton: Life was simple-He was a 1934 Catholic. Whatever the rules of the church were, that is what his rule of life was. He sent his kids to Catholic school (108 years of Catholic school tuition!) He went to church every Sunday and Holy Days without fail.

He was an active member of the Attleboro Lions Club and the Serra Club and served on the initial Bishop Feehan High School board of trustees.

Tom was gifted at creating fond memories built upon his love of family and simple acts he would do with friends and family that created lasting memories. Trips to the bowling alley, PawSox games or the clamming bed to name a few.

Tom entertained family and friends whenever a piano was in the room. He loved to tease those that he liked. He enjoyed many summers in Falmouth, MA where he hosted his family and friends at the beach, throwing horseshoes, playing HORSE, and digging clams and quahogs for clam boils.

His favorite hangout was the Park Tavern. He would enjoy a Budweiser and bring home the best blade meat sandwiches. Always a Red Sox, Celtics, and Patriots fan-he rooted for the home team but was never upset when they lost. He would say "the other players gets paid to win too."

Tom is survived by all seven of his children and their spouses. Donna and Michael Figuerado, Laurie and Joseph Siddall, and Michael and Kimberly Castro all of Rehoboth, Nancy and Edward McCretton lll, Maureen and David Kayata all of North Attleboro, James and Lori Castro of Attleboro and Thomas Jr. and Susan Castro of Virginia.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation from 4 to 8 PM on Monday October 27, 2025 at Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck Street, Attleboro.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at St. John the Evangelist Church, 133 North Main Street, Attleboro. Burial with military honors will follow at St. John's Cemetery, West Street, Attleboro.

Yesterday

Jim (and family), I will always have fond memories of hanging out at Thacher St and Roberts Rd... and your father joining us in games of "horse"... Bocce... and watching the Boston sports teams playing on the TV in the downstairs den. Your father had a sense of humor that could elicit either a laugh or an eye roll... but he was always nice. Always. I will miss him, too. Prayers and condolences to you and your family. Your father enjoyed a great life, and this is reason for celebrating.

Peace,
Jeff (and Michelle)
