Elmer Gathright, age 92, passed away on Sunday, November 21, 2021 in Heber Springs, Arkansas. Born on May 1, 1929 in Saratoga, Arkansas , he was the son of the late Lonnie Leoma Gathright. After graduating from Harding College, now Harding University, Mr. Gathright taught school in Heber Springs for two years before becoming the Superintendent of the West Side School District, of which the original gymnasium bears his name. He then became longtime business owner of Gathright Ready Mix Concrete in Heber Springs, Arkansas. After retirement he enjoyed being a cattle and hay rancher until the age of 90. He was a long time faithful member of the Heber Springs Church of Christ, of which he took a very active roll.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years Mildred Gathright, six brothers and one sister.
He is survived by his daughters, Sandra Howard and her husband Bill of Shannon Hills, Arkansas, Sharon Thomas and her husband Billy of Batesville, Arkansas, and Karen Gathright of Heber Springs, Arkansas, his grandchildren Heather Cross and her husband Matt, James Howard and his wife Davanne, Steven Howard and Amanda Posey, and his great-grandchild Hunter Cross. Mr. Gathright is also survived by one brother Kirby Gathright and his wife Karen of Texas. He is also survived by his other relatives and many friends.
Visitation for Mr. Gathright was held from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at the Heber Springs Church of Christ followed by funeral services at 2 p.m. Interment followed in Cleburne County Memorial Gardens.
