Tommy Joe Ancel, resident of Drasco, Arkansas, departed this life on Monday, Oct. 6, 2025, at his home at the age of 85. Tommy was born in Pumpkin Bend, Arkansas, on Feb. 15, 1940, the son of Joe and Mary Evelyn (Best) Ancel.
Tommy was a 1958 graduate of McCrory High School. In 1962, he proudly enlisted in the United States Army, where he served his country with honor until receiving an honorable discharge in 1968. On May 14, 1966, he married the love of his life, Mary Melton, and together they shared 59 wonderful years filled with love, laughter and family.
After returning home from military service, Tommy began a long career at Sanyo Manufacturing in Forrest City, where he worked faithfully for 29 years before retiring. Tommy was of the Christian faith, and in recent years, he attended Banner Church of Christ. He was known for his strong work ethic, kind heart, and friendly nature that made it easy for him to connect with others.
Tommy enjoyed many hobbies that brought him peace and joy; he loved hunting, fishing, gardening, and woodworking, but above all, he cherished time spent with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Robert Ancel.
Tommy is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Ancel of the home; three sons, Jamey Ancel and wife Harriet of Wynne, John Ancel and wife Shelley of Sherwood, and Stephen Ancel of Heber Springs; one daughter, Debbie McGill of Heber Springs; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family members and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
A memorial service celebrating Tommy's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2025, at Banner Church of Christ near Concord, with Mr. Fred Strasser officiating.
