Hilda Verdella Hanna Matthews
ORANGEBURG -- Graveside services for Mrs. Hilda Verdella Hanna Matthews, 93, of 1000 Methodist Oaks Drive, Orangeburg
will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 12, 2021, at the Browning Branch Cemetery, Old Number Six Hwy, Elloree, with
the Rev. Stanley Rivers officiating. Masks will be required for persons attending the service.
Drive-thru viewing is scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 11, 2021, at Williams Funeral Home of Elloree.
Online condolences may be also be sent to the family via [email protected]. Friends may also call the funeral home.
The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, that contributions be made to Williams Chapel AME Church, 1198 Glover St., Orangeburg, SC 29115/

As I think of you today Godmother, I am truly blessed to have had you in my life for 93 years.
To God be the Glory ..that a friendship was created with a beautiful women Hilda and my mother Annie over 61 years ago. This friendship manifested a development of a little girl....that was nurtured and inspired by a classy and beautiful woman until her end. After the passing of mom when I was 6 years old, you held your promise to her to take on the role of Godmother and you never wavered. I will cherish our many conversations of wisdom and memories from our times in New York to Orangeburg, rest in peace Godmother Hilda until we all meet again.

Hilda and my Aunt Mirian Hinds were very good friends. I´ve known Hilda all of my life and she was a wonderful woman and she was like a distant aunt to me. Rest well Hilda job well done

We met John and Hilda Matthews in 1993 when we became neighbors and they became adopted parents.We shared many Outings and Endless amounts of quality time together. All filled with laughter and wonderful memories.

We met Hilda & John 8/6/1999 at our family reunion in Charleston, SC. Hilda was the photographer for this event. It was an honor to have been a part of Hilda's life.
