Mildred Simkins Obituary

Mildred Glover Simkins

The Orangeburg community is mourning the loss of Mildred Glover Simkins, a respected educator, entrepreneur, and community leader who passed away March 3, 2026, at the age of 92.

The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Orangeburg, SC. Interment will follow in Belleville Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday at Trinity United Methodist Church. Members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will conduct the Omega Omega Service at 5:00 p.m. at the church. The public is invited.

She was born in Orangeburg County, South Carolina, to the late Oscar E. and Annie Lou Crumel Glover.

Mildred dedicated her life to education, business, and community service. She earned her Bachelor of Science and Master's Degrees from South Carolina State College and began her career as an Early Childhood and Home Economics teacher in the Orangeburg City School System. She later taught Food Service in Charleston, South Carolina, influencing generations of students through her commitment to education and mentorship.

Following her career in education, Mildred became a successful real estate broker and business owner. Through her company, MGS and Associates, she owned and managed multiple properties and played a significant role in local real estate development. Her work helped provide housing opportunities for many families and contributed to the growth of the Orangeburg community.

Mildred was also widely known for her civic engagement. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the Shamrocks Social Club, and the Women's Ministry at Trinity United Methodist Church in Orangeburg.

Friends and family describe her as a determined entrepreneur, devoted mother, and a powerful presence in the community.

"She believed in hard work, family, and building something that would last," said family members.

Mildred was married to the late Frederick Douglas Simkins and from this union came four children.

Simkins is survived by her four children; ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and a large extended family of siblings, nieces, and nephews.

Her legacy of education, entrepreneurship, and community leadership will continue to inspire those who knew her.
