Wilbur Kizer
February 1, 1931 - June 12, 2025
Wilbur K. Kizer, 94, has entered into his eternal life to be with his Lord and Savior on June 12, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Wilbur was born in Charleston, SC, on February 1, 1931, a son of the late Annie Blanche & Julius P. Kizer. He grew up in Charleston and graduated from the High School of Charleston in 1947. Wilbur joined the Marines and served his country in 1951. He attended IAS School of Accounting, and worked for Parker Laboratories in Charleston, where he sampled and tested a variety of material for the use of coal. He then went to work for Tidewater Concrete & Block Company for 20 years, and was head of the spectra-glaze Division. While working for Tidewater, he met the love of his life, Florence Flowers. They were married on September 8, 1956, at St. Mary's on Yonges Island. In 1970, Wilbur reopened the Edistonian General Store, and for over 40 years he served the citizens and visitors of Edisto. He became very involved with the Catholic Church. Wilbur had a marvelous voice, and sang solo for many weddings throughout Charleston. He was a choir director at Blessed Sacrament and St Joseph's Church in Charleston. He devoted much of his time at St. Frederick & St. Stephen Catholic Church on Edisto, doing bookwork and repairing anything needed.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Florence F. Kizer; Sons, Anthony J. Kizer, Matthew K. Kizer, Jerome W. Kizer (Marie) Gerald S. Kizer (Jennifer) and his beloved daughter Angela F. Kizer; his precious grandchildren, Ericka Woods (Brian), Makayla Kizer, and Jon Kizer; his great-grandchildren, Brian Woods Jr., Anna Leigh Woods, Grace Judy, William Judy and Henry Judy.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Julius Laverne Kizer.
The family would also like to express great appreciation to his caregivers, Sharon Green, Fran Meggett, Wanda Jenkins, Josephine Lawrence & Herman Watson, who were like family to him.
His Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 1:00 PM, Friday, June 20, 2025, at St. Frederick & St. Stephen Catholic Church of Edisto Island, SC 29438. The family will receive friends at the Church Hall, following the service.
