CHARLES DUCEY
HARDIN — Charles Edwin Ducey, 87, of Hardin, died May 24, 2017, at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehab Center, surrounded by family.
Charles was born on April 28, 1930, in Pittsfield, Illinois, the son of Edwin James Ducey and Helen Marguerite (Hassett) Ducey. They preceded him in death. He was married to Carol Sue (Huber) Ducey until her passing in May 1998. Also, preceding him in death was a brother Patrick Ducey, and sister-in-law Patty Ducey.
Charlie spent his life in Hardin Illinois. He graduated from Hardin High School in 1948. Charles served in the Korean War as a member of the United States Army. Charlie retired as Postmaster of the Hardin Post Office after 41 years of service. He spent several years after his retirement working at Rolling Hills Golf Course in Godfrey. Charlie could also be seen daily at the Joe Page Bridge taking water level readings for the Army Corp of Engineers. He was very honored to be the first Grand Knight of the Calhoun Knights of Columbus #4407. He was a Charter Member of the Hardin Lions Club, a member of the American Legion, and St Norbert's Parish.
Charles is survived by a daughter and a son, Mary E (Liz) Steinacher of Jerseyville and Jim (Lindsey) of Loves Park, Illinois; one brother R. Joseph (Mary Jo) Ducey of Alton, and one sister, Mary Ellen (Charlie) Wurm of St Louis, Missouri, four grandchildren: Jennifer (Tim) Reasner of Jerseyville, Illinois, and Todd Steinacher of Carrolton, Rylen and Taylor Kirk of Loves Park, Illinois; three great-grandchildren, Michael Steinacher, Jace Moore and Makinna Moore; sister-in-law Shirley Ducey of St. Charles, and one very special friend Elaine Wardein, with whom he shared the past 18 years.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, May 26, 2017 at Gress, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Hardin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday May 27, 2017 at St. Norbert's Church in Hardin.
Burial will follow at St. Norbert's Cemetery in Hardin.
Memorial Contributions may be made to: Tri County Transit and Jerseyville Estates.

Charlie was one of the very first people to welcome me to Calhoun county when I changed my address at the post office in 1989. He always had a smile for everyone. I extend my sympathy to his family.
