Christian Larsen Obituary

Christian Larsen
06/01/1950 - 09/10/2024

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Dr. Christian Larsen, known to all as Chris, on September 10, 2024. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, and dedicated physician who touched the lives of many.
Chris was born and raised in Kensington, California. He graduated from UC Berkeley before attending Creighton Medical School, where he laid the foundation for a career in psychiatry. In 1976, he and his wife, Maggie, moved to Davis to begin his residency at UC Davis. Following his training, Chris established a private psychiatry practice that lasted until his passing.
In addition to his private practice, Chris was deeply committed to education and mentorship. He joined the UC Davis Volunteer Clinical Faculty in 1983, where he played an integral role in the training of medical students and residents. His contributions included involvement in core courses, the Psychiatry Club, residency seminars, and Grand Rounds. His popular "Structure of the Mind" seminar captivated advanced residents with its exploration of contemporary neuroscience and psychoanalytic theory. Chris was also a graduate of the San Francisco Psychoanalytic Institute, where he advanced his training in child psychoanalysis and contributed as a teacher.
Outside of his professional life he enjoyed working out at the Davis Athletic Club, cycling, playing guitar, and hiking. He also cherished time spent with his family. Chris is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 51 years, Maggie, his two sons, Matthew and Drew, his sister Sheila, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. In honoring Chris's memory, let us remember the kindness he showed to everyone he met and the impact he made in the world of psychiatry and beyond.
