David Stumpe

CLERMONT, FLA — David Raymond Stumpe passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2015. He was 64.

David was born June 4, 1951, in Carrollton, Ill. He was the son of Evelyn and the late Louis Stumpe, Jr. Though David grew up in Illinois, he traveled extensively with his family and lived in Alaska, California, and Maryland before the family returned to the Stumpe family farm in Dow. David was a 1969 graduate of Jersey Community High School. He graduated from Illinois State University in 1973 with a degree in agriculture. After graduation, he joined his father and brother in running the family dairy farm. Eventually he and Louis took over the farm's operations, and he worked on the farm until his death.

He married Sally Diane Plato on July 26, 1974. They lived in Jerseyville and had three children, Amy, Josh, and Amanda.

David loved his family, his farm, and his community. He was an avid hunter in his younger days, and he also loved going to auctions, where he could be found many weekends chatting, bidding, and bargaining. David will be remembered as a loving husband, a devoted son, a loyal friend, an extraordinary farmer, a steward of the land, and a wonderful man.

David is survived by his mother, Evelyn Stumpe; his wife, Sally Stumpe of Clermont, Fla.; his children, Amy Stumpe Johnson (Dave Johnson) of Clermont, Fla.; Josh Stumpe (Brittany Karcher Stumpe) of Glen Carbon, Ill.; and Amanda Stumpe of Boston, Mass; his grandchildren, Luke Johnson of Clermont, Fla, and Avery and Allie Mae Stumpe of Glen Carbon; his sister, Katherine Stine of Dow; his brother Louis Stumpe III (Diane Stumpe) of Dow; and many adoring nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family plans a private memorial service
