Gary Hamer Obituary

Gary David Hamer
Alton - Gary David Hamer, 81, died peacefully at his home on Sunday, September 14, 2025. He was born July 25, 1944 in San Diego, Calif., the son of Gerald David and Elaine Audrey (Hope) Hamer. Gary served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam war. Following his time in the service, Gary worked as a teacher for Holy Ghost Catholic School in Jerseyville, and spent 30 years substitute teaching in the Alton School District. On November 25, 1972 in Alton, he married Carol Sue Willings at St. Mary's Church, and she survives. Gary is also survived by a son, Jason (Amber) Hamer of Mokena, Ill.; two grandsons, Caden and Abel; one sister, Janet (John) Renick; his mother-in-law, LaVerne Logston; brother-in-law, Ken (Kris) Willings; sister-in-law, Sandy Willings and his forever friend, David Roller.
Private graveside services will be Saturday, October 11, 2025 at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. In his memory, donations may be made to BJC Hospice. Gent Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Additional information and online guestbook may be found at www.gentfuneralhome.com
