James "Bob" Robert Hunter

James Robert "Bob" Hunter, 92, passed away at his home in Murrells Inlet, SC on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at 1:24 am.
He was born on June 8, 1932 in Harrisburg, IL to James "Eddie Wise" Robert Hunter Sr. and Ruby Anis Hunter (Josey).
Bob served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1955. He was stationed in Korea.
He married Thelma Thompson on February 9, 1957 in Corinth Mississippi. She survives.
Bob worked as an Electrical Engineer for Boeing Aircraft for 42 years before retiring in 1997. He was a lifetime member of Alton Eagles, Alton VFW, and South Carolina Moose Lodge. After he retired, he learned how to make stained glass. He created beautiful works of art for family and friends. He also enjoyed reading, collecting foreign coins and doing genealogical research. He did lapidary work and silversmithing as well. He loved to travel and had been all over the world.
Bob is survived by a daughter, Katherine Sue (Scott) Clifton of Naperville, Illinois; four siblings, Steven (Colleen) Hunter of California, Phillip Hunter of Oregon, Jon (Linda) Hunter of South Carolina, and Linda Davis of Maryland; eleven grandchildren, Brian Crew, Melanie Crew, Kristin (Steve) Turner, Morgan Clifton, Anthony (Felicity) Clifton, Jennifer Stirlen, Sarah (Justin) Mitchell, Julia (Jesse) Mathis, Tate McCleery, Samuel (Paige) Hunter, Kelsey Hunter; fourteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by three of his children: Deborah Kaye Hunter, Sandra Jean Hunter, and Robert Wayne Hunter; five brothers, Adrian Hunter, Ronald Hunter, David Hunter, Richard Hunter, and Gregory Hunter; two infant siblings, Anthony Hunter and Cynthia Hunter; and a grandson, Alex Stirlen.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2024 from 10am until time of services at 12pm at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto, Illinois. Pastor Christopher Clifton will officiate.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto, Illinois. Alton VFW Post 1308 will conduct military rites.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
