John Mennemeyer Obituary

John Robert Mennemeyer
Eureka - John Robert Mennemeyer passed away suddenly on Saturday, February 19, 2022 in Eureka, Missouri at the age of 70, with his family by his side.
Loving father of Lauren (Chris) Lampe of Eureka, MO. Beloved Pawpaw of Jackson, Abigail, and Eleanor Lampe. Dear brother of Bernard Mennemeyer (Cheri) of Springfield, IL, James (Debbie) Mennemeyer of Maryland Heights, MO, and Belva (Mike) Walls of Bethalto, IL. Beloved uncle and great uncle to several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Francis and Ruth (Belver) Mennemeyer and a brother David Mennemeyer.
John was born July 9, 1951 in Wood River, IL. He attended high school at Civic Memorial in Bethalto, IL where he graduated in 1969. He was an accomplished athlete in track and field, most notably the pole vault. John served his country in Vietnam from 1971-1973. He returned home and finished his Bachelors of Science in Business in 1976 from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. John was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity while at SIUE. He would later go on to obtain his Masters in Business Administration from Quincy University in 1986. John worked as an employment manager for 25 years at the Missouri Department of Conservation until his retirement in 2011.
John was a very knowledge sports fan. He loved the St. Louis Blues. You could always find him watching something sports related on television. He enjoyed playing golf, card games on his computer, fishing and being outdoors. John was an avid bowler and golfer for most of his life. He was passionate when it came to talking politics or current events. But most of all he loved his family and friends. His grandchildren were his world and always the highlight of his day. Pawpaw often got in trouble for sneaking his grandchildren gummy bears. While he lived in Jefferson City he volunteered with St. Vincent De Paul and Habitat for Humanity. John had a special group of friends in Jefferson City who he spent his Tuesday nights with at Paddy Malone's Irish Pub.
John had a personality larger than life. He was easily the life of any party. His quick wit and sarcasm will live on with all those who knew and loved him. He had a way of telling stories and jokes that left everyone laughing. In recent years John had been diagnosed with lung cancer, and Parkinson's disease. Even though he faced great difficulties with these diagnoses and treatments, he never let it bring him down. Until the end he was loving, comical, and kind hearted.

I worked with John at the Conservation Department for many years. John was a very unique person and had a great sense of humor. I remember how he always loved to watch basketball and hockey. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and hope that all your wonderful memories of John will help you through this sad time.

John was the youngest of the 4 boys and then their lives changed when Belva was born - a princess amongst the boys. We cousins were an unruly mob growing up but loved each other and have kept in touch throughout the years. John was a good kid and an even better man. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

John and I sat through many an interview panel while we worked with MDC. John was fair, professional, and had the personality that you always looked forward to working with.

To the Mennemeyer family, so sorry for your loss. All the Mennemeyer kids were well liked, with such a good sense of humor. Each of my sisters were blessed to have a Mennemeyer as a friend. Such a great family.

My dear friend John was my boss at the Conservation Department when I lived in Jefferson City and one of the best people I knew. Or friendship continued after I moved, and I am so grateful I had that. He loved his family so much. I’m going to miss his smart wit and his love for the Blues. Keeping Lauren and the family in my prayers.

I worked with John for many years at the Dept of Conservation. He was thorough, competent, but, more importantly, was a great person to be around. He always talked so lovingly about his daughter. My life was made much richer by knowing John. Please accept my sympathy.

I worked with John at MDC throughout his career and was lucky to become a friend over the years. He helped me deal with a number of personnel matters, always professionally, but quick with a joke or a welcome wisecrack as soon as the work was accomplished. He often talked of his daughter and family. He was a good man!

Lauren: So sorry to hear of your Dad’s passing. He worked for me several years as Assistant Personnel Director at St. Joseph Hospital in St. Charles. He is one of the best people I ever hired. All the staff in our department enjoyed working with him. His people skills and his humor are some of the qualities we will always remember.
Hold on to all fond memories of your time together. Our deepest sympathy to your entire family. John and Lorraine Sarantakis

I am sorry to hear about John's passing. We didn't work in the same office, but I enjoyed talking with him in the hallways while we worked at the MO Dept of Conservation and seeing him at retiree events. I will miss his lively, outgoing personality and opinions about anything and everything. Rest well, my friend.

John was a bright light, always enjoyed the time I was around him. Although I did not work as close to him as others I got nothing but good comments from those that did.
