Mary Brase Obituary
Moro - Mary E. Brase, 87, of Moro passed away Monday December 23, 2024 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. She was born December 11, 1937 in St. Louis, MO to Michael William "Bill" and Sylvia (Hulverson) Jordan. She married Merlin "Hank" Brase in 1959. Mary was a graduate of Roxana High School and received her Master's Degree in Journalism from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. She enjoyed exploring and traveled the world. Mary was retired from the Alton Telegraph News Paper, where she worked for many years as a reporter and feature writer.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Merle Brase, of Moro; son, James Brase of Decatur; daughters, Beth (Craig) Bussmann of Gillespie, Suzy (David Panico) Brase of Kansas City and Diane (Ed) Atkins of Troy; eleven grandchildren, Teresa, Alex, Rachel and Victoria Brase, Kate, Sarah and Michael Bussmann, Henry, Eleanor and Sam Panico and Melissa Atkins and one great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, William, Michael and David Jordan.
Visitation will be Friday, January 3, 2024 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 4, 2024 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bethalto with Father Tom Liebler as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Edwardsville. Online guestbook available at www.paynicfh.com.

Mary and I grew up on same street in Roxana. I have many happy memories of times spent together. I am so sorry to learn of her passing and send my condolences to family.
