OPAL L. HENDRICK
EAST ALTON - Opal Lea Hendrick, 92, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014, at her home.
She was born Dec. 11, 1921, in Eldorado, Ill. to the late John and Verna (Keasler) Hausser.
On April 13, 1947, she and John L. Hendrick were married in Eldorado, Ill. He preceded her in death on Aug. 5, 1998.
Mrs. Hendrick had worked as a secretary for the Selective Service for ten years. She was an active member of the East Alton First United Methodist Church, participating in the Women's group, Duo Class and Care Team. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and quilting, but especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, John Rodney and Nancy Hendrick of Leawood, Kans. and Kevin and Valarie Hendrick of Granite City, Ill.; a son-in-law, Robert Sitze of East Alton; seven grandchildren, Brent and Joshua Hendrick, Alicia Daniel, Jacob and Thomas Sitze and Austin and Tyler Hendrick; and five great-grandchildren, Jessica Hendrick, Andrew, Jack and Caroline Sitze and Annabelle Reno.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Sitze; a grandson, Samuel Sitze and a sister, Clara Evelyn Edwards.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, at East Alton First United Methodist Church with Pastor Bill Pyatt officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the East Alton First United Methodist Church.
