Cottage Hills - Steve "Mouse" Quertermouse, 68, passed away Friday, April 21, 2023, at Alton Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Evansville, Indiana, on July 21, 1954. He was the youngest son of Shirley Quertermouse, and Ernest and Mary (Preston) Christenson.
Steve retired from the Wood River Township Highway Department after 41 years. He served as the Democratic Wood River Precinct 17 Committeeman for Madison County from 1996 to 2008.
He married Shelia J. Clutts, on June 14, 1974, in Cottage Hills, Illinois, she survives. They have 3 children, Steffi Quertermouse, Shawna Quertermouse, and Steven (Ashley) Quertermouse, all of Cottage Hills; 7 grandchildren, Cori Lynn Beckham, Ryleigh, and Hayden "Haddie" Franklin, Marquis "Maq" Quertermouse, Victoria "Tori" Hardimon, Chloe Quertermouse Metz, and Cheyenne Quertermouse; a goddaughter, Cassie (Stark) Raimundi; special friends Larry (Lisa) Corrington, Mark (Trish) Bryant, and Buddy (Donna) Norton; other extended family and countless friends.
Steve had a passion for racing and was an avid NASCAR fan. He spent the late 70s and early 80s racing his Double Deuce car at area racetracks. After hanging up his helmet, he picked up a controller and joined the RC car racing community. And Mouse Motorsports was created.
He was preceded in death by his father, stepfather, and mother; a brother, Bobby Quertermouse and a sister, Shirley Farmer.
Rev. Royce Roy will provide a private graveside service for family and close friends on Friday, April 28th at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. The family will hold a Celebration of Life that evening, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the VFW Post 7678 in Cottage Hills.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be made to the Siteman Cancer Center or the Salgi Esophageal Cancer Research Foundation.
