Wayne L. Hanold
Peoria, IL - Wayne L. Hanold, 92, of Peoria, Illinois died Monday, November 18th, 2024, at his home in Peoria, Illinois.
Born September 7, 1932, in Brighton, Illinois to Earl L. Hanold and Clara Denby Hanold, he married Stefania Steiner on July 5, 1958.
Preceded in death by his brothers Allen (wife Jenny) Hanold and Bruce (wife June) Hanold.
Surviving are his wife, his daughter, Mitzi of Washington DC; two sons, Kurt (wife Michelle) of Peoria, IL, and Todd (wife Katharine) of Highland Park, IL, and six grandchildren, Noah, Rowan, Emmett, Owen, Sophie, and Theodore.
He graduated from Southern Illinois University with a degree in accounting in 1954 and from the University of Illinois Law School with Juris Doctor degree in 1957. After serving time as a Sergeant in the United States Army, he joined the United States Steel Corporation serving in various capacities including as a Stainless Steel Division Analyst. He entered the private practice of law in 1963 in Peoria with the law firm of Westervelt, Johnson, Nicoll & Keller where he served as managing partner for a number of years and practiced as a trial attorney for 37 years. His practice areas included medical malpractice defense, insurance defense and general litigation.
He served as President of the Peoria County Bar Association from 1980 to 1981 and President of the Abraham Lincoln Inn of Court from 1990 to 1991. He was a member of the Illinois State and American Bar Associations, Illinois Defense Counsel, American Academy of Hospital Attorneys, Illinois Society of Trial Lawyers, the American Society of Law & Medicine Inc. and Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity.
He was President of the Downtown Kiwanis Club from 1978 to 1979 and President of the Alumni Association of Southern Illinois University College of Commerce from 1954 to 1955. He was a former member of the Ivy Club, County Club of Peoria, Creve Coeur Club and Theta Xi Social Fraternity.
He was a constant companion to his wife, Stefi, her best friend and buddy, and was always by her side, her hand in his. A constant refrain, was his asking Stefi, "Have I told you today that 'I love you'?"
His hobby was farming with his brothers and loved returning to Brighton.
He will be remembered for his kindness, eagerness to study, learn and expand his mind, his reliability, integrity, and honesty. He was gentle, with a playful, quick-witted humor.
In his latter years he loved his home and the joys of the sunrise and sunset over the Illinois River.
Visitation will be held from 11 am until the time of funeral service at noon, on Monday, November 25, 2024, at Anderson Family Funeral Home in Brighton, IL.
Burial will follow at Brighton Cemetery in Brighton, IL.
