Ann Beahan Obituary

Ann L. Beahan, 83, of Scranton, passed away Saturday, Sept. 9, at Allied Services Hospice after a brief illness. She was the widow of James J. Beahan, who died Nov. 12, 2016. The couple married Oct. 11, 1958.

Born in South Scranton, daughter of the late Eugene and Loretta Brennan Pedley, she was a graduate of South Catholic High School. Ann was a member of St. Ann's Basilica, where she served as a Eucharistic minister and sang in the church choir for many years.

Before retirement, Ann was employed by the Lackawanna County Sheriff's Department as a deputy sheriff.

Ann was a loving wife, caring mother of eight, grandmother and aunt. She was happiest spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends. She loved all animals, big and small, especially her three dogs, Frankie, Teddy and Molly.

Ann believed in the power of kindness, and in recent years found great pleasure in painting and hiding rocks at local parks in the community. Ann made many new friends as a member of Scranton Rocks, a group dedicated to spreading kindness through painted rocks.

She also loved movies, music, painting, crafts, going for car rides and revisiting past memories.

Surviving are two sons, James P., Scranton; Christopher P. and wife, Patricia A., South Abington Twp.; four daughters, Ann Judith (Judy), Ledyard, Conn.; Amy Barth and husband, Gerald Jr., Torrington, Conn.; Kathleen and husband, Travis Hurst, Williamsport; and Colleen, Scranton; nine grandchildren, Patrick and Stephen Finucane, Meghan, Micah, Johnathan and Penelope Beahan, JT Barth, and Alice and Maxwell Hurst; nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her son, John P.; and daughter, Patricia A.; five brothers, Girard, Eugene, John, Frances and Thomas; and sister, Mary Simpkins.

The family would like to thank Allied Hospice and Geisinger CMC for their care. Also, the staff at Geisinger 65 Forward for their guidance and compassion and Telespond Senior Day Center.

Memorial contributions can be made to the All-Inclusive Butterfly Playground at NayAugPark.org and Indraloka Animal Sanctuary, indraloka.org.

Ann will be remembered for her beautiful heart, her kind soul and her witty sense of humor.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Sept. 22, at 11 a.m. in St. Ann's Basilica. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery. Friends may call starting at 10 a.m. in the church. Arrangements by Thomas J. Hughes Funeral Home Inc., 1240 St. Ann's St., Scranton, Pa.
