Anthony Baptist Jr., 69, of Harding, passed away Monday at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore after an illness. He is survived by his best friend, caregiver and loving wife, Elizabeth "Bette" (Faust) Baptist. The couple was together for 26 years.
Born on March 24, 1952, and raised in Moosic, Anthony was the son of the late Anthony Sr., and Doris (Loprete) Baptist. A graduate of Riverside High School, he then moved to Philadelphia where he studied computer technology. A lithographer by trade, Anthony worked for many years at Panel Prints in Moosic before most recently working for Chaucer Press in Hanover Twp.
A diehard sports fan, he loved his professional Pennsylvania sports teams. A handyman with the ability to seemingly fix anything, he especially took pride in restoring his antique Cub Cadet lawnmowers. He had a big heart and an innate ability to make others feel loved. He adored his family and was a lifelong animal lover. Gone too soon, Anthony will forever be missed.
He is survived by a stepson, Malachi Durkin of Harding; eight siblings, Paul Baptist and wife, Paula of Moosic, Robert Baptist of Old Forge, William Baptist and Jon Baptist and wife, Shuyi, all of Arizona, Cathy Schoenherr and husband, Richard of East Stroudsburg, Dodi Pilling and husband, Bill of Old Forge, Rosemary Baptist and companion, Bill Garneau of Fogelsville, Pa., and Carol Smith and husband, Donald of Scranton; and many nieces and nephews.
His family would like to express their gratitude to the kind and caring staffs of both Hospice of the Sacred Heart and the Frank M. and Dorothea Henry Cancer Center at Geisinger Wyoming Valley for their collective care, kindness and compassion throughout Anthony's illness.
Details for a celebration of Anthony's life will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 517 N. Main St., Old Forge. Please visit the funeral home's website to leave a condolence.
