Barbara Tyler Mears died Saturday. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Farnham Mears, Jr., who died in 1977.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Leslie Boardman and Florence Pabst Tyler, she was a resident of Clarks Green for more than 50 years. She was a graduate of Scranton Central High School and Drexel Institute, now Drexel University in Philadelphia.
She was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church and the Covenant Women. She was a member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Scranton City Chapter, for more than 50 years and a member-at-large of the New England Women. She belonged to the St. David's Society of Lackawanna County and the Abington Senior Center. She was a trustee of the board of directors of the Lackawanna Historical Society. She was also a past member of the Scranton Club and the Abington Women's Club.
Surviving are a son, John F. Mears III and daughter-in-law, Rebecca R. Mears, Rockaway, N.J.; two grandsons, John and Edward, New Jersey; and a niece, Sandra L. Tyler, El Paso, Texas.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, Nathan Abbott Tyler.
The funeral will be Friday at 8 p.m. from the Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St., Clarks Summit, with services by the Rev. Scott Loomer, pastor of Covenant Presbyterian Church.
Friends may call Friday, 5 p.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
