Bernice S. Coccodrilli, 84, of Peckville, passed away at Hershey Medical Center on Jan. 4, 2022, following a battle with cancer. Surviving is her loving husband, Arthur, with whom she shared 63 years of marriage.
Born on Sept. 17, 1937, in Jessup, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Della (Tassi) Fanucci. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Peckville.
Bernice was a graduate of Jessup High School and the Lackawanna Business School. Her early employment included positions in accounting for N.B. Levy's Jewelers, Scranton, and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Dunmore. She dedicated her subsequent years to raising her family. She particularly enjoyed spending time with family and friends and supporting her children and grandchildren in the pursuit of their dreams and passions.
Bernice had many hobbies and interests. She had a lifelong passion for tennis, attending many U.S. Open tournaments in New York City and playing weekly with friends. She enjoyed luncheons with her tennis and the "Ladies in their Eighties" friends. She loved taking trips to New York City to shop and see Broadway shows, traveling to European destinations and vacationing with her husband and friends in Puerto Rico. Bernice was an avid reader, frequently sharing book recommendations, and used her knowledge, experience and love to provide sage guidance to her family over her lifetime.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughters, Michele Sebastianelli and husband, Dr. Wayne, Kyle Leoncini and husband, Anthony, Dr. Kim Coley and husband, Alan; grandchildren, Geoffrey Sebastianelli, Alyssa Sebastianelli, Matthew Coley and Jordan Leoncini; brother, Gary Fanucci and wife, Joyce; sister-in-law, Louella Procopio; brother-in-law, Lt. Col. Raymond Angeli; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister-in-law, Nancy Angeli; and brother-in-law, Frank Procopio.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 1101 Willow St., Peckville. Interment will follow at St. John's Cemetery, Jessup. All attending are asked to follow COVID-19 protocols and wear a mask.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society (lls.org), P.O. Box 22324, New York, NY 10087 or the donor's favorite charity.
