Robert "Bob" Alan Common, 77 years, residing in Clarks Summit, died Monday at Green Ridge Health Care Center after long-standing medical issues. His loving and devoted wife of 35 years was the former Penny Hall.
Born Sept. 10, 1945, in Newark, N.J., he was the son of the late Lincoln "Linc" and Gladys (Thorpe) Common. He was a graduate of Briarcliff High School, Briarcliff Manor, N.Y., and attended Westchester Community College, Valhalla, N.Y., until the time he honorably served in the United States Marine Corps. He was formerly employed by Tobyhanna Army Depot and Lucent Industries as a specialized electronic technician.
Bob truly loved the life he lived and dedicated his love to his beautiful wife, family and friends. He was a food and wine connoisseur creating delicious meals including his famous "Bob" burgers and champagne mustard which he shared as a gift during the holidays. He was a trivia buff and knew many facts of varied topics, often winning at games of trivia. He created beautiful pieces of jewelry from hand-selected gemstones and was a creative gift giver, choosing just the right gifts for his wife, friends and family. He lit up a room with his boisterous laugh and dry humor, and volunteered as Santa for a local nonprofit organization for several years. He will be sorely missed by his friends and family.
Also surviving are a daughter, Jennifer Ballis, Sacramento, Calif.; a brother, Jim (Chris) Common, Apple Valley, Minn.; a sister, Shirley Dahlgren, Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; nieces and nephews including Steven Common, Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; and extended friends that were part of his family.
He was preceded in death by sister, Janice.
