Christopher George Griffin, 50, died at home on Friday, Oct. 1, 2021, after battling glioblastoma brain cancer. He was surrounded by his wife and son and close family.
A native of Scranton, Pa., he was preceded in death by his father, Robert Thomas Griffin Sr. Chris was a firefighter with the City of Norfolk Fire Rescue in Norfolk, Va., for almost 10 years, serving at Stations 2, 7, 10, 12 and 13. He was a member of Waverly Masonic Lodge #301 in Clarks Green, Pa., and the Lackawanna Royal Arch Chapter #185.
Chris grew up in Scranton, Pa., where he attended Scranton Tech High School. Chris was a devoted family man and his wife, Aimee, and his son, David, were his entire world. Chris had a passion for flying and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Chris was a genuine friend and true fireman. His passion for the job was unmistakable. Chris was always a jokester and loved to make people laugh. He put others first and always made sure others were taken care of.
Prior to moving to Virginia, Chris was a member of the Chinchilla Hose Company of South Abington Twp. where he previously served as fire chief. Chris was elected to the position of senior warden at Waverly Lodge #301. Chris was also the township superintendent for South Abington Twp. for nine years.
Chris is survived by his wife of 13½ years, Aimee Jenkins-Griffin; son, David Hunter Griffin; mother, Sandra Sterling Griffin; sister, Shannon Sacchetti and husband, John; two nieces, Kathryn Zurinski; and Kimberly Zurinski and fiancé, Alex; father- and mother-in-law, David and Linda Jenkins; and several aunts and uncles; cousins; nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Norfolk Fire Rescue Training Center in Norfolk, Virginia, on Friday, Oct. 8, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with funeral service immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Norfolk Fire Department Federal Credit Union, 4100 East Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk, VA 23502, in memory of Christopher Griffin.
