Deborah Ruddy Obituary

Deborah C. "Debbie" Ruddy, 53, of South Scranton, died Saturday in Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton, of complications from cancer. Her loving husband of 20 years is Joseph J. Ruddy.

Born in Scranton on March 21, 1959, to Julia Mokis Jaworski, Scranton, and the late Charles M. Jaworski, she was a 1977 graduate of West Scranton High School. She was a member of St. Ann's Basilica Parish, the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians and had worked for Atlas Industries, the Jaworski Sign Co. and, for the last 18 years, the Flowserve Corp. She was a very active volunteer for the American Cancer Society and St. Ann's Novena.

Debbie was a loving wife, mom, daughter, sister, aunt and friend to many. She never "gave in" to her 15-month courageous battle with cancer. Debbie enjoyed yearly trips to New Smyrna Beach, Fla., camping, fishing and relishing the good, quality times with her husband, Joe, daughter, Ashley, and her dog, Kimmi. Debbie will be deeply missed and fondly remembered in the hearts of many.

She is also survived by a daughter, Ashley, at home; two sisters, Donna Celuck and husband, Rich, Taylor; and Melanie Dougher and husband, Bill, Scranton; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

She was also preceded in death by a mother-in-law and father in-law, Joseph A. and Jean Marie Ruddy; and a nephew, Army Sgt. William Dougher Jr.

The funeral will be Friday at 9:15 a.m. from the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home, 254-268 Railroad Ave., West Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Ann's Basilica, Scranton. Interment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.

Viewing for family and friends will be Thursday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

JOE & ASHLEY - YOU ARE IN MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS!!! GOD BLESS YOUR MOM!! WHEN MY MOM DIED SEVERAL YEARS AGO SOMEONE GAVE ME THIS POEM...When God saw Debbie getting tired
And a cure was not to be
He put his arms around her
And whispered come to me
He didn't like what she went through
And he gave her rest
His garden must be beautiful
He only takes the best
And when we saw her sleeping
So peaceful and free from pain
We wouldn't wish you back
To suffer that again
Today we say goodbye
And as you take your final rest
That garden must be beautiful
Because you are one of the best. PEACE!!!!
