It is with great sadness our family announces the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and dear friend, Dorothy Racht. She died peacefully surrounded by her family on March 1, 2023.
Born Sept. 26, 1933, in Old Forge, to Joseph and Laura (Danoski) Fitt, she leaves behind her brothers, Joseph, William and David; and her sister, Charlotte (Litwiniec) (Kolodziej).
She married Jack Racht and together in Dickson City raised their children, John (Sharon Drake), Linda (Michael) Chorba, Judith (Paul) Bailey, Nancy (Sosnowski) (John) Bogdanovicz and Janet (Kevin, dec. 2005) Johnson.
Dorothy's greatest joy was receiving sweet and loving hugs from her 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Dorothy's most rewarding employment was at Moses Taylor Hospital where she worked for 30 years. A generous soul, Dorothy gave freely of her time and was always willing to lend a hand or provide comfort and companionship. She also had a fun sense of humor and would never hesitate to offer an honest opinion.
When Dorothy and Jack weren't traveling to Alabaster, Ala., or Sarasota, Fla., they loved their many drives to the New England area. Please remember Dorothy with an act of kindness or by correcting someone's improper use of the English language.
She'll be greatly missed by her family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held for Dorothy on Sept. 1 from 4 to 7 p.m. at La Buona Vita 200 Reilly St, Dunmore, PA 18512.
